fully transfer wordpress blog to new host?
I have a wordpress blog on another host that I would like to fully transfer to my new host. The domain name will stay the same.
I had a copy of the website on my server, and decided to use that first because if something went wrong it wouldnt wreck the good copy. This is what happened when i copied the wordpress files and imported the database.
It should look like... http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/14/24/97/08/before10....
But BOTH copys (the copy on my reseller account and the backup on my server) ended up like this... http://i44.servimg.com/u/f44/14/24/97/08/after10.p...
Even though the new host and my server are not connected in any way at all, both copys eneded up useless. Whenever i try to modify the settings via wp-admin i get errors saying corrupted files.
So now, with only the GOOD copy left i cannot stuff this one up
I have the following files on my harddrive:
Complete copy of root directory
.sql backup of database
.xml backup from wordpress > export
I have been looking at http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress but since EVERYTHING will stay the same (using same DB name, prefix, user, pass), same file structure how can i move the blog correctly? This is a major site so if it stuffs up im seriously screwed, since i have clients like the BBC going to look at my work in a days time.
If you could please help
Thanks

You are doing it the hard way. Get a web host that will the transfer for you your WP, for free!

It is not too late to use the money back guarantee on your current, unhelpful host.
Good luck.

There are many platforms available on the internet where you can host your blog for free. Wordpress is the best among them and it costs nothing. Given that you already have hosting and domain purchased already. On Wordpress based blog, there are options where you can set up multiple authors or users registered who can update their profile with new posts and it will be displayed on the blog.

Install the copy of wordpress on the new server. Files, blah bla blah.
Leave the database blank.
Import - thru phpmyadmin - your old database.
DO NOT use the xml backup. Then you're importing 2 copies of your posts. Just do the database.
Check with the default theme that everythings ok. Activate plugins, then activate the theme you want to use.
It's possible the new host doesn't like the new theme - just something to keep in mind - but it's not likely.
