Spiritually Speaking, how seriously can you take someone's claims about their religion...?

If you see them repeating mean-spirited lies about other people and beliefs?

I see a lot of people on here who claim to come to R&S purely to "witness" about their beliefs or to show other people "the truth" of their religion, but who post blatantly nasty lies about other people and beliefs, and who continue to post these claims no matter how many times they are shown that the things they post are untrue.

I can't help but wonder whether such people are really that impervious to reason or facts, or whether they're just unconcerned with whether what they say is actually true. More than that, though, I wonder how someone who lies so lavishly about other people and beliefs can possibly think that they have any credibility when they talk about their own beliefs.

When you see someone post nasty comments or outright lies about other people, do you instantly dismiss anything they say about their own beliefs?

And to those of you who do this (and are at least honest enough to admit it), do you expect people to take your claims about your own religion seriously if you consistently ignore facts about other religions? Or is it that you think that you can say anything you like about other people and beliefs and it won't count for some reason?

Thank you for your answers, darlings!!

Update:

@Barry, cupcake, Babylon is a town on the south shore of Long Island.

Update 2:

Happy New Year, Uncle darling!!! (((((Uncle)))))

Update 3:

@Logic, darling, I know exactly what you mean - I actually posted a comment to a YouTube video today, pointing out that the claims the person in the video was making were false. My comment was removed immediately, so I posted another one, asking whether anything that criticized the video was deleted instantly, and the uploader called my initial comment "insanely stupid" and blocked me from commenting further. I've never seen an atheist video that did that.

Update 4:

@Sarah, darling, I don't, but I wonder how seriously such people take themselves.

Update 5:

Happy New Year, darlings!! (((titou))) (((/\))) (((jethom)))

Update 6:

@phil, darling, how wonderfully and succinctly put!! Happy New Year, darling!! (((phil)))

People of faith feel good about their beliefs and can hear criticism.

Those who lack faith cannot hear and have to stand on the trampled beliefs of others.

The only time I said something completely wrong about a religion was by mistake.

I'd known a Mormon woman in Utah years ago who told me that only Mormons could benefit from the contents of the Deseret Warehouse. I repeated what she'd said, and a couple of Mormons objected that it was not true. Since then I've heard others say it wasn't true, as well.

    So we live and learn.

Much of our little brains are packed with misinformation as well as truth; we can't just be sure that our original sources knew anything about anything.

On a scale of 1-10? 0. Yeah, that much.

See above: zero. Theists can't make a case in reality. All they have is a lie, to one degree or another.

Happy and Prosperous New Year. It looks to be an interesting year, don't you agree? ;-)

Sometimes I'll make a joke about it,

sometimes I'll call them out on it,

    most times I ignore them.

Depends how I feel I guess.

    Happy New Year (((Auntie)))!

As long as there are no weapons involved, no criminal slander or threats, and I have the right to freely leave at any time ; if those conditions are met I see no reason to prevent those who claim to be divinely inspired from saying or doing whatever they like.| Of course excessive use of profanity or repetition does lower credibility, ya know what I'm sayin'? Also scratching of nuts or other tics involving personal hygiene.

  • These people are cutting the throat of their own religion! Have you noticed that many of the YouTube clips denouncing atheism won't allow either ratings or comments (without approval) or BOTH? What does THAT say?

I've yet to find an atheist's clip which forbids ratings or rebuttals. What does THAT say?

We should respect the other fellows religion but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart. -H.L.M.

God has all power in a universe that is self-existent and inherently free.
