Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie..?

So, I was planning on seeing that new movie the girl with the dragon tattoo. I havent read the book either, so i barely know what the movie is about. I told a few people i was going to see it, and they all told me not to; that it was awful and apparently showed a lot of violence towards women..? Is this true? Can someone tell me what the movie is about? Thanks

ok, so you have to remember that the movie is based of a swedish book called "Män som hatar kvinnor" which translates to "Men Who Hate Women". I won't sugarcoat this: YES, there are a LOT of uncomfortable scenes (about 3 rape scenes and another almost rape scene amongst some other things). However, the main character, Lisbeth, is such a cool and strong character. She is a brilliant, yet antisocial woman who if you saw on the sidewalk, you'd probably cross the road. In the movie, she's portrayed by Rooney Mara (look her up, she's gorgeous!)

    To sum it up:

the plot deals with a girl from a scandalous family who disappears on the island they live on and a man, Mikael is called in to investigate years later. Eventually, Lisbeth joins him, and realizes that there is more to this than just her disappearing- it relates to various other murders/rapes, too.

Soooo whoever told you about this is true about some awful scenes, but false about the movie being bad... it was actually very interesting and never dull... haha.

Source(s): I saw the movie and read the books.

The Swedish original is actually three movies. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) , The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009) and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009).

The story revolves around a hacker who has gone through horrific abuse, abandonement by family and state BUT...refuses to be a victiim.

A woman for our times. A riveting story. Yes there is violence towards women. But this girl won't taken **** lying down. Its about how she handles **** life throws at her and refuses to stick her head in the sand. The first movie is brutal...the second deals with where she comes from...giving the audience a little chance to catch our breath...then the third movie delivers some head shaking life lessons...somethings for us all to think about.

One of my top three trilogies of all time. Try the Swedish trilogy...the original before you tackle the american version....if you can.

The movie was really good. The people who told you not to see it are probably puss!es. It has one rape scene. They mystery is about a serial rapist/murderer. It was an amazing film, surprised me. Better than the original. You'll leave the theater a little depressed, though. Worth it.

the movie is about how freaking hot rooney mara is that's why it's so long so i get to look at her for long. if you're not bi or lesbian i don't recommend the movie for you this movie is clearly meant for the lesbian community.

Whether you see the movie or not is your choice. However, if violence towards women bothers you, then the movie is not for you. Basically, they are trying to find a out how a young girl was murdered, and run into a series of murders in the area, all of young(er) women. In addition, the main female character has some especially brutal scenes. It is pretty awful.

Again, the movie is very close to the book. The main character is working for a newspaper, and stuff goes down, so he agrees to work for another guy. This leads him to working on the old murder case and eventually working with Lisbeth (girl with the tattoo). There is a ton of violence towards women, so if it bothers you, I wouldn't see it.

I don't go for movies with violence like this, but I really did like this movie. Hope it helps. :)

That was pretty ignorant and blind of the people who told you so. I read the book and saw the swedish version of the movie, (the original, its found on netflix if you want to see it). The point of the movie is to draw attention to discriminatory violence. The book was good (minnus the first 80 pages that do nothing but speak of business i couldn't grasp). The swedish movie was alright and the american version is supposed to be revamped by hollywood to be more exciting. Besides, the poor woman who was abused gets her glory, don't worry about it. Just be aware that it's dark. Her revenge makes you wonder if she's sane at all, but it is satisfactory. I believe it's worth the watch.
