Why does my dog whine when I make howling sounds?

My 6 year old male dachshund whines loudly when I (or anyone else) make a howling sound. We adopted him about 6 months ago and just discovered this. He is generally very quiet. Why does he do this? What does it mean?

Update:

It's difficult to tell if he dislikes it. Sometimes he seems scared, other times he will run up to me and put his paws on me wagging his tail.

Could be that it reminds him of the pound, all the other dogs there were much bigger and louder. He seemed extremely timid and unhappy.

    Its most likely scares him.

It could remind him of where he came from and when that sound happened bad things happened. Or it just plain out scares him.

    Hope I helped!

I have to say it must be scaring him. The howling sounds you make, well, he thinks it's from a real wolf and I think he must think wolves eat him for dinnerr, but as long as you don't scare him like being a fake wolf, he should be okay.
