how do I save programs from my macbook to a flash drive?
I want to change hard drives but want to keep some of the applications to reinstall on the new hard drive without buying them again.

If your apps are from the Mac app store, you can download them again free.
For other apps, just connect the Flash drive and locate it either on the desktop or in the sidebar of a Finder Window.
Go to Applications in the Finder Window and drag the app to the Flash drive. It will copy it to the drive.
To speed things up you can select multiple apps and drag them altogether. You then need to wait for them all to be copied to the drive. (You will see a progress bar to let you know when it's done).
