If taxes are so high and regulations are so steep, how did corporations get so rich?

The way the GOP/Tea/Fox/Jesus party talks, taxes, unions and regulations would have reduced these trans national institutions to mere shadows of what they are. Come on...if taxes and regulations and 'the unions' were such obstacles to massive profits how is they have billions to buy each other up, pay such monster salaries to the top executives and give away millions on top of millions to buy up as many congress critters and senators as they need? And, it's all legal! I see a disconnect here. Some well thought out explanations are needed...no one sentence cracks if you can help it!

Update:

I'm stealing the one about people buying all this 'crap'.....in my next novel I'm putting that in....it's perfect. it's not the exact answer I was looking for, but by God it is an answer

Because when corporations began to merge and grow bigger and bigger and bigger so that now only about 13 giant corporations exist with their tentacles involved in EVERYTHING - they began to exert pressure on Congress to over regulate the smaller, up and coming businesses. They have regulated smaller businesses to such a point that these have been forced to leave the country. Don't misunderstand. If you were an Engineer for example, and wanted to have your own office - you'd be looking to pay upwards of $20K a year in regulation fees. Take stuff for example as your elevator annual certification, your fire extinguisher's annual certification, plus the fee to the elevator inspector and the fire extinguisher inspector, the key inspector and the poop inspector! They regulate and tax you up the ying yang while the global giants get away with not even having to pay postage on anything they ship.

Because now more than ever, people buy crap.

Now more than ever, we give in and buy even more crap. And now more than ever, we buy cheaper crap. And now more than ever, we buy even more cheap crap.

So ultimately, you have a massive population buying untold amount of crap. Naturally the evil corporations will get richer. I mean, it's only natural....

You produce crap, you put a price tag on it, and then when it's sold, it's income.

When you have a ton of bottom feeders cleaning up that crap with their wallets, what rises to the surface is money, and what sinks down is the bottom feeders. Make sense?

    Let's take Apple for example.

Here's a company that's throbbing with profits. Why?

-The bottom feeders spend hundreds of dollars on new iPhones, iPads, iTVs, iCrap every other month, because let's be honest, the iCrap 2 comes out in February, and the iCrap 3 is already scheduled for release in March. You want to have the latest crap, don't you? That's right, you let your money float out of your pockets and rise up to the surface where the fisher men(the Evil corporations) can scoop it out.

    Of course it's all legal.

If I produce a product called: "Crapulators"

and mass produce them, and then mass sell them, I'm going to be making massive profits. It's a simple transaction. Product goes to consumer, consumer gives me money.

I can't just give you a shiny new Crapulator for free... No, I'm going to sell it, because that's the logical thing to do.

As I sell more Crapulators, i'm going to be making even more profits. So you know what? I'll thank my underlings and give them nice, fat paychecks to keep up the good job. There's nothing wrong with that either. Work is not free.

They are shadows of what they were, yes it's that bad!

You do know that there are somethings we can't do without so things like farming will always be here but right now it is limited.

They are not getting rich here any more, but those that do make money have found ways to make the Government to pay them back or I should say a way to stay in existence like the GM cooperation.

Right now GM couldn't exist with out their help.

But I bet you think everything is all hunkydory huh.

From what I've heard, the corporations do not pay their fair share of taxes and that is why a lot of people are mad. They can afford to pay executives monster salaries. I believe if the rich would pay their fair share, then the country would be a lot better off.

By selling things people want at prices they are willing to pay. That is what the owners - stockholders - expect. It's the reason they invested their money in the corporation.

The tax code exceeds 80,000 pages. No one can read it. in those lines is corruption.

Re-live your youth when a 1040-EZ was possible.

Sorry I just work to live. I do believe the government as a basis at this point in timer is the essence of corruption. Please correct me. That it really is candy canes on sugar cookies.
