New car engine break-in?
We purchased a 2012 Nissan Frontier 2 weeks ago. The dealer had to locate one which was 140 miles away. He had it driven to the dealership .
I asked him about driving it all that way ( mostly highway ) if it would effect the break-in. The service manager told me it would have no effect at all. When i got into my owners manual i states to not to keep the engine at one constant speed for any length of time for the first 1200 miles.. For it could hurt the performance and or economy of the motor.
right now I'm averaging 12 miles to the gallon where i should be averaging 16-17. And not too happy about it right now.
Just like some input with engine break-n and mileage.

Well... Given that this "service manager" will answer your concern with a little bias. Its his/her advantage to Sell. Usually the first thousand miles should be a mixture of different speeds... highway and city. So abrupt stops and starts should be avoided to break-in your new machine.
Personally ...I wouldn't worry because whats done is done just continue breaking her in. Your mileage will improve as the engine balances and "machines" its minute rough spots since the engine is still brand new. Change out the initial oil after this period.

Drive it gently. General rule
is not to exceed 3000 -
3500 rpm. for the first 500
miles. It is also a good idea
to be kind to it for the
first 2000 miles.
