Where are my thoughts coming from?

Thoughts I don't like or want keep popping into my mind and thoughts I do like and want evade me. How can I have better control over my thoughts, if at all? Thank you.

Meditation helps master your mind. Learn how to focus on one thing. Nothing but one thing with every sense. It's harder than it sounds. You get better overtime. Letting your mind go crazy and not rest causes most of the problems that we are facing today, therefore leading addictions and diseases.

I suppose it all depends on what the unwanted thoughts are? I personally doubt that it's possible to "have control over [our] thoughts"; but we can control our responses to our thoughts and we can look into the thoughts. We can see what commonalities they have, or what thoughts we had immediately before them that may have influenced them. I love to play the game of tracing such thoughts (or sometimes conversations with friends). Read some novels or short stories that employ a stream of consciousness narrative style. These can help you consider the flow of your own mind. Perhaps, it being two years or so since this post, that you have come to your own conclusions on this topic (or at least made peace with it). Enjoy!
