Poll: Do you think the Afghan government can maintain control...?

of their country after US troops are gone?

"The U.S. military said in a secret report that the Taliban, backed by Pakistan, are set to retake control of Afghanistan after NATO-led forces withdraw, raising the prospect of a major failure of Western policy after a costly war."

Lieutenant Colonel Jimmie Cummings, a spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said "The classified document in question is a compilation of Taliban detainee opinions," he said. "It's not an analysis, nor is it meant to be considered an analysis."

Or was this released to put pressure on the US to keep troops very nearby, instead of deploying them home?

What is your opinion?

The Russians were broken by their Afghan war and now it is the turn of the Europeans and the Americans to be left in economic crisis as they pull out.

And the Taliban will return triumphant once again....

Karzai's government has always held tenuous control over Afghanistan. His alliance with the US and NATO is looked at sideways by a lot of Afghans, partly because of all the accidents in which civilians have been killed. Add to that the fact that Karzai is an unreliable ally, probably because he's seeing the writing on the wall.

A lot of those same Afghans hate the Taliban too, though. It would be horrible to see them take back the country and continue their brutal regime. Not to mention the security problems it would cause the US, Europe, and the rest of the Middle East for that matter. It seems like the US will remain there for quite some time if this report is accurate.

The second US troops leave Afghanistan, the Taliban move right back in.

That American troops are still there is proof positive of the existence of the "military-industrial complex" president Eisenhower warned us about.

  • Karzai is nothing but a glorified mayor of Kabul. If he stuck around after the US left, he'd be drawn & quartered by the Taliban.

  • As long as they are following the Islam so called peaceful religion, crime and terrorism is not going to stop. The best thing is to make sure the Islam followers stay where they're at, do what we have to do to distant ourselves from these terrorists. Stop allowing them to immigrate to the west...and yes I am willing to make a stand against the Islam terrorist religion.
