Illegal immigration....is there really an answer?
Anyone here illegally who can prove they've been here for seven years with no crimes on the books gets to be a resident but not a citizen. Nobody likes this idea, but as a practical matter it's the only one that's doable. Anyone with kids born here gets to stay as a resident but not a citizen. Anyone here for five years or less must go home or go to prison. Then of course we have to assign Coast Guard personnel to patrol the border in large numbers. (Coast Guardsmen come under Homeland Security, not the Dept. of Defense so this is legal eagle). We could transfer some of our guys from the Army to this duty..put 'em horseback as needed. Add some really bad mojo to employers who hire illegals and.....okay...many holes in this, BUT the price is right and let's be real..NOBODY is going to deport several million people. So...we cut the best deal we can and move on. Yes? No?

Several million...more like 30 million since Reagan's amnesty.

Here's the problem; we have offered immunity before and surprise only a handful come forward yet another bucket full comes through the back door. The best system is the E-verify, it is so damn simple, you just verify or make employers verify that they are allowed to work in the US.
I know it is hard to accept that illegal immigrants should not be give immunity, but it is simple, they are breaking the law, if you overlook it, it makes others do the same.

So, all anyone has to do to get automatic residency is stay under the radar for 7 years or have a baby? Yea... that isn't going to be abused. That would increase our problem ten fold.
Make it impossible for them to get a job and get freebies for the children they have here and they will go home on their own.
We deported millions of them while Eisenhower was President, we can do it again.

If you are here illegally, you are sucking off the citizens. In benefits, in jobs, etc. No more free rides for the illegals - that's why they come here. Then they will stop coming here.
