There is more to the game than winning. And there are different ways you can win.

If you will remember earlier that the talk was that the Newt was not serious about winning? That he spent more time on book signing and speaker tours than campaigning? Well I surmise that he is still doing it. There is another reason but I will get into that later. The longer he can keep his name in the press, the more it favorably affects his ability to charge more in speaker fees, hawk his books, etc. It also means that if he stays on, the candidate apparent (the Mitt-ster) might become annoyed enough to offer him a deal, like an ambassadorship or a cabinet position. Now have you noticed that none of the other candidates actually dropped out? Instead they suspended their campaign. The reason for this is that they get a match for funds raised by the Fed. But you do not get anything if you actually drop out. So either Newt is vrying for a deal from Mitt or he is still getting a fair sized amount of contributions (which would dry up if he suspends or drops out) and he will not turn away money being donated plus the matching funds by the Fed. z

Romney won Nevada last time. The national polls are still close, and Newt will do well in the South. If Paul can manage a couple hundred delegates we could have a brokered convention.

because of the fact Gingrich marketing campaign is 4.5 million money in debt if he drops out of the race, he can not strengthen campagn donations to help pay off that debt if he maintains to be interior the race - he can legally proceed to get marketing campaign contributions to help pay off that debt extra importantly, he can placed tension on Romney supporters, to donate to his marketing campaign, to pay off that debt, so he can then drop out of the race. 2. Thats a fantastically standard ingredient that politicans do, if thier campaigns are in debt, and the writing is on the wall that they can't win. 3. it extremely is achievable that Romeny won't have adequate delegates to take the nomination on the 1st vote on the convention by staying interior the race, Gingrich keeps his delegates -- which factors Gingrich ability on the convention ability to get area of his coverage written into the GOP platform

  • Nevada really isn't your best evidence to support this point.

However, that being said, there are a lot of people who are going to stick with the candidate they believe in. For some that is Gingrich. However I do believe that you will see his donations diminish over time if this trend continues.

So you're saying on the basis of 25000 votes in a country of 300million we should stop everything and make mitt the varmint hunter president? If that don't sim up the religious party, nothing does

He has the support of perhaps the most lavish individual donor in the history of presidential politics. So far the Edelsons have given him $10 million, which in their wealth bracket is a drop in the bucket. There's more where that came from, thanks to the Supreme Court.

To put their wealth into perspective:

If my net worth is $100,000 and I give a campaign $10,000, that's 10% of my net worth.

If the Edelsons gave $10,000, they would be giving 0.00000001% of their wealth.

The bigger question is how he could have ever been considered - even for a moment- as a serious contender in the first place.

A gambling operator has given him almost half of his total. Part of that whole family values thing.
