IF I tighten my lifters to tight will the oil not flow through them as well?

I put the top half of a friends engine together and there is very little oil coming up to the rockers? I took both valve covers off and there is no splash!! It kind of just barley flows down the top of rockers and down the springs also the engine wont come off an idle, it seems as if sucks air and dies, there is plenty of gas as we can see it squirting down the throttle body? well ant help is appreciated, thanks oh its a 85 chevy v6 oh he bought a hi flow oil pump?

    Your concerns about tightening the lifters and stopping the flow of oil is wrong. All the lifters are fed oil in a common rail and all you are doing is clasping the lifter to a point that it will not have enough room to allow oil in. Please back them off as you could burn a valve by not letting it close all the way. The amount of oil coming out of the rockers would be the direct reflection of the volume of oil left from what the oil pump is pumping and how much is being lost in the engine bearings. (rod and main and cam bearings) The high volume pump may do the job better but it tells me there is a lot of loss before it gets to the rocker arm assy and that sounds like a high mileage car. A 1985 chevy would fit right in that class. I'd say leave it or completely rebuild it.

    The stall you are having could be as simple as a bad vacuum leak. You said you put the top half together and I would be concerned that you put the intake manifold gasket on the right way. In those days you could do things like that and not see it but it would block the holes and cause the vacuum leak I suspect.

    While your query is very nearly rhetorical, the functional reply is lack of awareness at the facet of the uninformed. Remember the change among lack of awareness and stupidity; lack of awareness is the loss of capabilities, stupidity is the lack of ability to attain it. :) Not handiest is over tightening the filter out a normal obstacle, the oil stress foisted upon the filter out housing explanations a few distortion leading to much more strain at the threads. That is why even a correctly established filter out on the whole takes a wrench to take away. Every new lube tech I've ever given steerage or coaching to has heard me inform him that if I ever capture him tightening a filter out with a wrench I'll beat him with that wrench!

    if you have hydraulic valves then there is no adjustment to them. take the push rods out and if they have a hole in them run a piece of wire through the holes. you say he put a new oil pump in? ask him if he primed the pump before putting it on. there is a cavity hole you have to pack with petroleum jelly so it won,t suck air.

    You may have adjusted the valves to tight or the oil pump is weak or the oil pump screen is clogged from lack of oil and filter changes. her is the LINK to adjust the valves:
