I think I need to euthanize my rat... Or can the vet do anything about this?
He has been gasping for air, his cheeks have gotten swollen (which almost makes me think allergies) I don't know if the vet can do anything besides euthanizing... Also before this, I thought he had an abscess so I took him to the vet, it turned out it was a wound filled with *blood*, not pus - forgot what the term was called. It went away, for the most part - except I still feel a small lump there. That was a week or two ago.
I have a nebulizer, I have antibiotics (Baytril), I have Metacam, but I don't think any of these things will help him... :/
I also have nebulizer meds that the vet gave me, which include a broncho dilator called albuterol
I was implying I would go take him to the vet...

sometimes things can look very drastic and turn out to be treatable.
in that situation, where you have the meds already, (check they're in date) I would phone the vet and see if they think it's worth administering either of those as an emergency, and then take the rat straight in.
good luck.

Call the vet if you think he has allergies and ask if it would be okay to give him some children's benadryl with the other medicines he's on and the vet can tell you the correct dosage. One of my rats just had an allergic reaction the other week where her cheeks swelled up, she looked like a hamster storing food and she was so itchy and swollen on her feet that she was limping. I gave her medicine and 36 hours later she was fine and totally normal. But she didn't have any breathing issues going on like yours.
Keep giving him his antibiotics and using the broncho dilator to help with his breathing in the mean time. Its possible he has a respiratory infection and coincidentally had an allergic reaction during the infection, so keep trying to treat him for now. If things still look bad in a couple weeks or he keeps getting worse to the point you think he is suffering too much then you might want to euthanize him. But try to give him a good chance to bounce back before you make that decision.

its sounds like your rat is very sick.....just a word of advice....i had a rat that i took to the vet and spent $100 on and it died the next day....it might be more humane and cost efficient to euthanize it....sorry....
