Is a Democratically elected Government the real voice of the people?
Are they there to follow the wishes of the public, or to follow their own goals, and desires towards a short term personal gain.
edit: "so be careful who you trust and who you vote in." erm, for BA?

Good question :OD
It is only my view of history. And I am a revisionist but wish us to learn from our mistakes.
I look at my leaders with great distrust. They are judged to be leaders by many because of charisma......Well...I find that scary but it is so.Many leaders come to power through being popular and charismatic. We choose our leaders badly.
America is right now deciding who shall be their next President and charisma is top of their list of values.
Obama was chosen as much for policy as for the fact that he was slightly black.
Bush was chosen for his gung-ho approach to drinking and dodging the draft.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saddam - An evil Dictator but better than what Iraq has now.
Henry VIII - Not too nice to women but was a God on Earth so could do as he pleased.
Idi Amin - Also a dictator and like all black leaders in Africa was corrupt and evil.
Tony('I'm just a regular sort of guy')Bliar - Sold us all out in the end.
Hitler Chosen as great because of his motivating speech making ability.
Eisenhower - 'Any man who wants to be president is either an egomaniac or crazy.'
Ahmadinejad - Imprisons and tortures his own Iranian people but voted in.
Dave Cameron('Call me Dave') - Chosen because he was not Brown.
Sonny was chosen by Cher and by the hit parade with some nice songs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gordon Brown was chosen by his own party, not by any vote and cannot spell or write straight or smile with conviction. He hates bigots so must hate himself in a way.
Bob Mugabe was elected into power in 1980 and hates whites and his own people equally so is at least even-minded/tempered in his killing.
Examples of decisions made that I disagree with are many.
Blair and Bush...democratically voted in to help their countries...and protect took us to a war that still goes on now and we are the worse for it.Did we really vote for this?
Back to 1939...Chamberlain...in power for much of the 1930's....and 'in power'' is the word''. In charge of our direction
He procrastinated and fumbled and warned Hitler of our intent and of the intent of his Generals to oust him...so keeping Hitler in office in Germany in 1939 when we kicked off a jolly good right war.
Chamberlain allowed his ego to take control.Different choices would have seen Hitler ousted by his Generals.None of which wanted war with either the West or with Russia.
Chamberlain and his cabinet voted for war.Britain convinced France to join us half-heartily on 3rd Sept 1939 & go to war to destroy Germany. We declared war and made Total War under Churchill.
Who asked for that?
It was a series of steps that ensured World War occurred...We could have stayed neutral...
Rudolph Hess flew all the way to Scotland to try and get a peace settlement between Britain and his Jerry mates but was silenced by Churchill and locked up till 2017 in case he was listened to in 2016.
...........Many would say Hitler would have attacked us......but for those,do look closely at his motivation and military ability across a channel of sea and facing a Royal Navy and Royal Air Force with better intelligence. He would not.He was provoked into action West and hoped we would see sense and sue for peace. It was foolish to underestimate the British.
I can debate that but we are here to answer Ozzie's good question.
Is a democratically elected government the voice of the people?
I would not have voted to mobilise in 1914 but I have the facts at my disposal.
I would not have voted to go to War in 1939...I would have seen, given all the facts that we could not help Poland.
I would not have attacked Iraq and will not want to attack Iran. Our current path under a Conservative/Lib Government in Britain is to a war with Iran....Will you go down that path?
Not in my name please!
We put characters into power and they will do as they please...so be careful who you trust and who you vote in.

There are philosophical arguments over whether an elected official should always pursue the will of the people or whether they are chosen as 'experts' to use their own judgement and do what they think best.
Either way, real democracy -is- the voice of the people. But for democracy to work requires a high degree of participation by the people. And enough electoral control of the elections to keep it from being taken over by a few powerful interests. Like the powerful corporations and financial elites interests that have taken over our democracy.

Ricky you omitted 1993 to 2000 Clinton sat on his arms and did not anything so we quite did get attacked on nine/eleven/2001. I have evidence of this that we quite have been attacked, move to NY town wherein two quite quite significant constructions have been and there's a significant and that i imply significant gap within the flooring, it's there. I feel two airplanes bumped into them and made them give way. Oh wait President Bush triggered that, I feel he was once at the telephone with them giving them course to the WTC simply so he might begin a warfare. You liberals are so shrewd to determine that out what might we do without you. That was once simply mistaken of Bush, simply mistaken. Oh sorry you on the whole wont like my reply. Someone must seem into this man Bush, thank you for clearing all this up for us Conservatives.
