Voting is similar to jury duty, in the respect that it is a duty of the American people to participate when called upon to do so. However, it is alright and respectful to the process to refrain from voting if you are unsure of the candidates or their stances. If anything, it would cheapen the concept of voting to simply vote blindly for a candidate you know nothing about.

Why vote at all? The only choice we have is between the hands in your pocket socialist or the grumpy old fascist. Either way NOTHING changes, and that's the way they want it. Its the illusion of choice.
By voting your not voicing your opinion, your giving your sanction and approval to how things are now. You agree with the way the government is running your life? Go vote. I say have some dignity and pride, don't beg for the scraps that are left on the table after the huge government maw devours all our wealth. By not participating your doing more to oppose the current system then blindly lining up in the rain to make your mark on some hanging chad in a dark booth somewhere.
