An Omniscient Deity = Predestination?

If you were to stipulate the existence of an omniscient deity, would that not imply predestiny, and therefore the lack of free will? I've had several very smart theology/philosophy scholars try to explain to me why these two things are unrelated, but I don't get it. If "God" can read the book of life for each and every one of us, now and every step ahead, doesn't that imply we can't change our futures, and therefore we lack free will?

Update:

@nameless -- you should write Dr Bronners labels! Good stuff.

Thanks for all the answers but I still don't get it. If there is any sort of anything in the universe that knows everything, including every choice and action each of us will ever make, then everything is already pre-determined and there is no free will. If "God" knows that I am going to get hit by a bus today, this is all just Groundhogs Day and none of the "choices" I think I'm making can change anything.

    I think Knowing the Choice, Understanding the Choice, and Making the Choice are all different things.

    An Omniscient Deity = Predestination?

    ~~~ No!
    If you were to stipulate the existence of an omniscient deity, would that not imply predestiny,
    and therefore the lack of free will?
    ~~~ Not necessarily!

    You might think that from a linear Perspective, by from a Holistic Perspective, every moment of existence exists Now! Synchronously!

    There is no 'pre' anything in a synchronistic Universe!

    What is, (already) is!

    Every moment of existence exists Now!

    "The Laws of Nature are not rules controlling the metamorphosis of what is, into what will be. They are descriptions of patterns that exist, all at once... " - Genius; the Life and Science of Richard Feynman

    All 'eternity' at once; Now!!

    There is only one moment (Planck moment; 10^-43/sec; "almost" one billion trillion trillion trillionths of a second!!!) of the entirety of existence/Reality/the Universe!

    All existence, ever, is one, literally, 'timeless' moment!

    Now!

    No moment of eternity can ever be other than as it Is! Ever!

    We cannot change anything! Ever!

    That is not "predestiny" that is what Is, Now!

    That is why the notion of 'free-will/choice' is mere vanity/pride, and unsupportable either scientifically or philosophically!

    Not anything is ever 'created', all that (already) exists is 'perceived', Now!

    I've had several very smart theology/philosophy scholars try to explain to me why these two things are unrelated, but I don't get it.

    ~~~ You are conflating two different things, as I have shown you.
    We are that Omniscient Deity!
    We are "Knowing Self" every moment of existence!
    This One moment of Existence, Is the moment of Our Enlightenment wherein We Know Our Omni- Nature!
    We are One Omni- 'Self!'!
    Existence = the complete Universe = Reality = Consciousness = Truth = 'Self!' = God = Brahman = Tao = ... etc....
    ALL INCLUSIVE!!
    'One'!
    Everything Exists!
    Everything is Real!
    Everything is True!
    Existence/Reality/Truth is all inclusive!
    'One'!
    That which is perceived exists!
    That which exists is perceived!
    Not a thing exists that is not perceived!
    Not a thing is perceived that does not exist!
    (There is no, nor can there be, any evidence to the contrary!)
    All inclusive!!!
    Every Perspective is unique, by definition/nature.
    The First Law of Soul Dynamics;
    "For every Perspective, there is an equal and opposite Perspective!" - Book of Fudd
    "The complete Universe (Reality/Truth/God/'Self!'/Tao/Brahman... or any feature herein...) can be defined/described as the synchronous sum-total of all Perspectives!" - Book of Fudd
    ALL INCLUSIVE!!!
    "Reality is a synchrony of moments!"
    tat tvam asi ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tat_Tvam_Asi)
    If "God" can read the book of life for each and every one of us,
    ~~~ We LIVE/KNOW every moment of existence, and that covers everything!

    We don't read the book, we ARE the Book! We Know the Book, immediately!

    now and every step ahead,

    ~~~ No 'ahead', no 'behind', only Now!
    One synchronous Now!
    doesn't that imply we can't change our futures, and therefore we lack free will?
    ~~~ Which is a correct conclusion, we cannot 'change' anything!

    You just have to correct for 'time', which exists solely in/as 'thought'!

    'Thought' perceived, Now!

    Capisce'?
