BB assembled backwards?
Working on a Trek 820. The BB is a CS11 cartridge and was mounted with the fixed side, the one with the flange on the left and the plastic splined nut on the right.
The shell has left hand treads on the right side and right hand treads on the left side. Seems to me that somebody installed the wrong BB and put it on the wrong side.
What BB should I buy to get it right?
@ DS~ The treads were not destroyed fortunately. That also added to my confusion. John is right thou.
@ John~ Thanks! I thought the flanges were supposed to be always on the right. Now I learned something.

The side where the chain is will have left handed threads. The left will have right hand threads.
There are two different styles of Shimano® cartridge bottom brackets. One type has a fixed flange on the right side (drive side). The other type has a fixed flange on the left side (non-drive side). Each one uses a removable ring opposite the fixed flange. See the figure below.

All bottom brackets are reverse threaded on one side. If it really was installed backwards/wrong then it would have stripped the threads out completely.
But I may have misunderstood your question, if so please disregard my obvious statements lol
