Will the Rush caused advertiser rush away from right wing controversial radio expand far further?
Quote: "Premiere Networks is circulating a list of 98 advertisers who want to avoid “environments likely to stir negative sentiments.” The list includes carmakers (Ford, GM, Toyota), insurance companies (Allstate, Geico, Prudential, State Farm) and restaurants (McDonald’s, Subway). As you’ll see in the note below, those “environments” go beyond the Rush Limbaugh show -".
"Considering that only two advertiser actually left Rush's show, and all the other supposed "defectors" were local level advertisers who just asked for their commercials to not be played during Rush's show, I highly doubt it.". Ah, I believe your "two" figure is, to be polite; way off.. Regardless of local or national, without enough of either or both, Rush and the other "talent" appear to have lost significant financial backing already..
"Companies that abandoned Rush experienced a great decline in stock prices". Oh really? Maybe, but then again, according to Marketwatch re: Carbonite "Yes, the market could have feared that Limbaugh’s fans would cancel Carbonite’s service, an online back-up solution for consumers and businesses, or mount their own boycott. Or maybe investors assumed Carbonite CARB +1.52% will suffer because it will no longer have access to Limbaugh’s audience.
Or it could be that investors saw in the release of the company’s Form 10-K this week that nearly all of its gross profits, some $37 million, went to pay for sales and marketing costs, presumably the ads the firm bought on more than 40 different talk-radio shows. ".
"Haven't you noticed that this is a dead issue.". I think here we have our "Didn't Fully Read The Question" Prize winner! It is NOT ALL ABOUT RUSH! Did you even LOOK at the linked article? Talent such as: Tom Leykis, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity? Far from a "dead issue"...
"It's a knee-jerk reaction as well as a pretense for activist Liberal organizations to take advantage of the politics of offense to get Rush off the air. Simply allowing individuals to choose not to listen to him is not good enough for them.". Really? Are you certain it isn't the free market in action, with advertisers deciding not to purchase certain radio "products" as they do not find these "products" will cost effectively maximize their sales? Don't forget that this isn't just "Rush". You DID read the whole question, right?
"Sandra Fluke turned out not to be an innocent little 23 year old college girl being picked on but a 30 year old long time activist used as a tool by Pelosi
Fluke researched the birth control policy at Georgetown, a Catholic University run by the Jesuits before she went there. SHe has spent the past three years trying to force Georgetown to bend to her will.
Her claim that birth control costs $1000 a year is false. THere is a Walmart and a target pharmacy in her neighbor hood that sells the pill for $9 a month. THere are also 4 free clinics near by.
Fluke doesn't just think the Catholic University should pay for birth control, she co-authored an article calling on insurance to be forced to pay for sex change operations.". Oh? Although none of this is at all relevant to the issue, can any of it be verified from a _reliable_ source?

It's a knee-jerk reaction as well as a pretense for activist Liberal organizations to take advantage of the politics of offense to get Rush off the air. Simply allowing individuals to choose not to listen to him is not good enough for them. Like a bad day on the stock market, things will recover. This is the essence of what happens in followership, not leadership.

In a nutshell no. Advertisers also want to advertise in markets where they can make money and there are listeners so they need to " go where the money is" ( like Willey Sutton said).

Rush will be just fine. Advertisers understand how large his listener base is.
