Help with Finding a Tripod?

I am in need of a tripod that can easily be used in hiking adventures. I also can't afford anything above $100. I came across the Trekpod II which seems to be a perfect fit. It can be used as a monopod, tripod, and hiking stick. It is under $100 and has a lifetime warranty.

I'm just wondering if anybody has any experience using a trekpod. I'm also questioning whether or not it will hold my camera, a Canon EOS Rebel XT with a 55-250mm lens. I am welcoming any opinions and/or suggestions about purchasing a decent quality, low budget, tripod that can be used for nature and wildlife photography. Thank you in advance :)

That tripod holds up to 9 lbs.. If your equipment weighs less than that, you are probably okay. Try not to skimp on your tripod.

Why do you need a tripod? For that kind of stuff I'd get a nice carbon mono pod. If you are shooting long exposures a cheap tripod is not the way to go. I use a Gitzo Traveller with a ball head for my location work where I need a light tripod but that is wayyyy over your budget.

Get a Targus telescoping tripod from Walmart. It folds up like a waterbottle and comes up to waste height (perfect for landscapes on top of mountains. It's $15 and will break after a few months- but would you rather smash a $15 tripod or a $60 one?

i personally hate tripods. i recommend getting a monopod. they are cheaper and more portable. amazon.com sells them. unless your camera weighs over 10lbs i wouldn't worry about weight.
