want to know how do you format the hard drive on mac pro,in disk utility,but the step needed isn't available?
I do have a copy of the install disk.
I have the install disk,but when I insert the disk nothing happens,so can begin to format and reinstall the operating system.

Hi when upgrading from one version of os x a disk is the best method we are now at mountain lion, but some of us are still using snow leopard which in my case was an upgrade from tiger.
the only problem is if the core processor is not intel but one of the predecessor G processors then you are stuck. but an upgrade will give you the disk which can be used to format and upgrade the computer.
each version giving a lot more useful facilities than the last and OS X unlike a Windows operating system disk is priced at a more realistic price if you are comparing like with like.
