Which is more logical, since the Universe had a beginning?

That a random "unknown" event happened or that Someone who had a purpose cause it to happen?

The more they study, the more evidence that the Universe did have a beginning, and may never have an end.

    Because scientists cannot explain what happened before the Big Bang, they "need" to come up with a hypothesis - an *assumption* that has not yet been fully tested or based on scientific facts. Since a Creator seems to be out of the question to them, they instead come up with ideas like "branes" and the multiverse, or a self-contained Universe coupled with quantum mechanics.

    But even *if* it were somehow proven that it was possible that all the matter and energy in the universe could have popped into existence all by itself, the *design* of the universe is so complex that it completely defies the concept of it originating through random chance. Those who truly rely on scientific explanations do not base their conclusions on random chance.

    That is probably why some scientists admit believing in God because of the fine-tuning of our universe. It is equipped with fixed physical laws and with natural constants that are precisely and ideally suited to support a planet like ours and all the life on it.

    For instance, the precise settings of the four fundamental physical forces (electromagnetism, gravity, strong nuclear force, and weak nuclear force), affect every object in the universe. They are set and balanced so precisely that even slight changes could render the universe lifeless.

    Knowing the truth about what the Bible says about Him gives one a sense of satisfaction and greatly assists in developing a personal relationship with Him. When this happens, as one matures, they can just *see* the order and wisdom and complexity in all of creation that one may miss otherwise.

    Couple this with what scientists themselves have had to admit about the complexity and orderliness of the Universe, it simply confirms what can already be perceived. (Heb. 3:4; Rom. 1:20)

    For a couple of millennia, the naturalists assumed that the universe was eternal - had no beginning. When Big Bang cosmology showed evidence to the contrary, the naturalists were deeply disturbed and it wasn't generally accepted for about 30 years. Still uncomfortable with the Big Bang, they now try to get around it by somehow trying to make it eternal with various hypotheses (that still wouldn't rule out a creator).

    Additionally, naturalists historically have viewed the universe as a closed system - hence, God (outside the universe) isn't allowed. Now that we know the universe isn't a closed system (it had a beginning, a causal agent), naturalist still basically view everything as if it is in a closed system.

    Also, these naturalists accept the laws of physics as "given." They are a brute reality. But they don't answer where these come from.

    Proceeding from the laws of physics are logic, reason, and mathematics - tools with which we can understand the universe.

    However, without a Creator, where does logic, reason, and mathematics come from?

    Because the universe had a beginning, it must have a cause, like anything that begins to exist. However, the cause cannot be a natural cause, because natural causes require time, space, matter, and energy, none of which existed until they universe exploded from a single point at the beginning of time.

    That means the universe must have been caused by a timeless, immaterial, personal designer of unfathomable knowledge and power. We call this designer God.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the link. The words random and unknown seem to go together well in this modern world of free-thinking, ha!

    I think this article is interesting as well:

    AND, just adding this scripture that was cited and the bottom of the article;

    "Did you proclaim the rules that govern the heavens, or determine the laws of nature on earth?" (Job 38:33, The New English Bible)

    Someone who had a purpose cause it to happen

    Rom 1:20(NASB):

    For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

    No one will be able to have an excuse!

    A 'random unknown event' is at least as plausible as the existence of 'someone who had a purpose' who apparently had no beginning itself. We know from experiment and quantum mechanics that random particles do pop in and out of existence, and affect matter, so the whole idea of a quantum fluctuation isn't all that farfetched. OTOH we have no evidence whatsoever of any 'someone' who always existed and creates universes. It other words, it is more logical to derive theories from real world experiments than from groundless speculation.

    Good to see you Rick,

    As it is a well known FACT: nothing begets nothing, logic tells us Someone has a purpose for all of this.

    It's more logical to think that someone had a purpose and of course, that someone is Jehovah God.

    I believe in the modified Steady State universe. everything that exists, is relatively in the same place it always has been . it's just that everything is shrinking in place, rate of shrinkage controlled by the mass of the object. the rate of shrinkage causes an apparent visual effect that everything is moving away from a central point, appearing to be receding from the "Big Bang" that didn't exist.

    The unknown event.. since if someone or something had caused it they would of been powerful enough to leave its mark behind.
