Is it proven by Quran or Hadith that we have to fold our trousers up to the ankle while praying?

Its in hadith that the clothes of men if below ankle then it is in fire.Meaning Pagan Arabs used to drag their clothes on ground with Pride and arrogance.

Prophet saas said that such aperson whose heart is filled with pride and arrogance will not eneter paradise.

One may argue here i donot wear clothes below ankle length with pride and arrogance like pagan arab leaders..still one should follow Prophets Sunnah for we know for sure that it contains much wisdom which apparently may not be known to us.

Not to forget the benifits of keeping above ankle length for men that they can keep clothes clean and free from dirt and other impurities.For women however it is haraam to wear dress above ankle length.even if it gets impure it is better to wash off that than keeping the dress above ankle and violate HIJAB RULES.

Trousers should not be too far past the ankle anyway, past the ankle they dangle in the hellfire

Folding long trousers up before performing prayer

Fatwa Date : Ramadhaan 16, 1426 / 19-10-2005

It is permissible for you to fold up your trousers before performing the prayer; as a matter of fact you are obliged to do so. It is forbidden to wear clothes that fall below the ankle even if the reason is not arrogance - according to a group of scholars. The Prophet , said: "The lower garment should not be below the ankle." He also said to Jaabir Ibn Saleem : "Lift your lower garment until half of your leg [mid-shin]. If you cannot do so, then do not let it hang below the ankle. Beware of letting the garment below the ankle, as this is a sign of arrogance, and Allaah does not like arrogance." [Ahmed]

Furthermore, there is a narration which prohibits wearing clothes which fall below the ankle when performing prayer. Therefore, a Muslim should not let his garment hang below his ankle whether when performing the prayer or otherwise.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The part of an Izar which hangs below the ankles is in the Fire." (Book #72, Hadith #678)

If your pant or pajama is below your ankle, it can collect dust or filth.

Hence one has to have his clothes above ankle. Doing it for prayer only

is a compromise, one should always wear pants above ankles.

There are many hadith on the subject and we are bound to obey our

prophet, if we are Muslims.

Of course not. It has zero religious significance. You don't need to do it at all. To even suggest that one's prayers will not be accepted because the trouser was not folded is making a mockery of God's laws.These sect driven rituals are all part of the "stickiness factor" so vital to the survival of illegal sects in Islam. BTW all sects are illegal in Islam, especially the one that claim to be the only true sect which unsurprisingly all of them do :)

Needless to say neither Quran nor true Sunnah advocate these rituals.

I see a few brothers doing it even when they are not praying.

I even overheard a brother saying that it's necessary to roll them up even when you aren't praying....

Intrestingly enough, business people don't have their pants below their ankles.
