Why when you look at the ocean, the horizon seems higher than than me or ships closer to shore.?
I've always wondered this. If I'm standing on shore looking at a ship a few miles out, why is the horizon line (about 6 miles out) higher, or above the ship?

at the ocean or see is the only place where you could have a long distance to look ahead...in the other cases your view is blocked,so you cannot see very far;
here is the only place where the spherical form of the earth could be observed,although you cannot realize this,but after a certain distance,the earth begins to bulge on his radius,so it`s higher than you...

The angle you form with the horizon is greater than the angle formed to any object closer than the horizon, hence it looks higher.
Just draw a picture and you'll see it.
