VPN??? Worth it?? Slowdown connections? PROS and CONS?

I have heard too many horror stories about using Proxys.! Are VPN's safer and really secure? The better ones apparently cost money, but eliminate the ads.. Will functions all work. It seems some Proxies did not allow Javascript or Active X to work??

Anything free is risky. Even the ones that just display ads do so based on your previous browsing experience to target the ad. Which means that they are spying on you. Odds are they are keeping that info as it is quite valuable to them for future sales to other advertisers. I have used this vpn service, http://www.surfbouncer.com/ many times in the past when I traveled oversea to unblock web sites. It's always worked with everything and their customer service was excellent whenever I contacted them.
