Is anything in the bible backed by evidence?

Update:

@Craig W. Dressler. Such as?...

You know, this is a real question. I'm not mocking. I actually want an answer.

Update 2:

Nobody has yet given me a "such as".

Why is everyone dancing around the question?

Update 3:

@kdanley. If in a thousand years someone comes across the Spiderman movie. Becuase the movie is set in New York and New York exists, is that proof that Spiderman exists?

    Loads of stuff:

There are coins that have been discovered with the name David on them.

There is evidence for various cities including Jericho having been sacked just as the bible said.

For the longest time opponents of the bible made a mockery of the bible because it mentionned a people called the Hittites who had not been discovered, those opponents didn't seem to show any embarrasement when the Hittites were discovered just ran to the next thing that hadn't been discoverd and teased bible beleivers over that. They did the same with the ancient Hebrews in Egypt until the areas where the Hebrews lived was unearthed. Here's a tip from archeology, if an ancient account is given of a people, or place don't mock it because it hasn't been discovered yet because sooner or later it may well be discovered and you'll look like an idiot (incidentally this isn't just the bible they did the same thing with the city of Troy until it was discovered).

In the British Library you'll see the Black Obelisk of Shalmaneser III containing a portrait of the biblical character Jehu.

These are just some items off the top of my head which opponents of the bible conveniently ignore when they ask "is there a shred of evidence that anything in the bible is true".

Are you assuming that there is NOTHING to back up the Bible?

Archeology backs up the Bible in every case. The cities, civilizations, and landmarks mentioned in the Bible either still exist today or have been proven to exist in the past.

Creationism is the Biblical interpretation of the scientific evidence in the world. For example, we YECs claim that the Great Flood is the cause of things like fault lines, stratification, and coal.

I could give other examples, but I'm sure atheists and evolutionists will keep me busy by telling me how much of a &*^&%$ idiot I am for believing the Bible.

    EDIT

I *knew* someone was going to say something like that. The existence of cities and such don't prove the Bible is true, but it does support the Biblical claims. If a suspect's alibi can be supported with actual places, events, and such, then it is possible that he is telling the truth. If his alibi involves non-existent cities and contradicts the facts, then it is likely that he is lying. If the justice system employed your logic, it would always assume he is lying in spite of the mountains of evidence that supports his alibi.

Some things certainly are, such as the existence of Egypt. Of course, that no more substantiates the bulk of the Bible than the fact Atlanta was burned in the Civil War means Scarlett O'Hara was a real person.

Let's stop the ranting and just look at the content of the book. A lot of the stories in the old testament have been found back in geological and other evidence. The plagues of Egypt for example have every and each one been found back. The parting of the sea has found a logical and believable explanation. What one has to realise is that the people at the time had only oral tradition. Telling stories at the campfire. Only much later they were actually written down. From there it's only a small step to understand that only the best stories get passed on.

Archaeology, despite the protestations of many of the world's leading archaeologists (some who later believed the bible), has confirmed places, people and events of the Bible.

Fulfilled prophecy, often long after the prophecy was made.

Textual confrimation of accurary, using ancient texts.

Secular writers often confirmed the biblical account, such as Jesus' existence, despite often being "hostile witnesses".

nicely there are couple of solutions you will frequently get in this. i'm no longer asserting those are the only ones, yet some. the 1st theory is that there grew to become into divine intervention. this suggests to declare that what grew to become into written grew to become into written down via human beings that have been being guided via God ; that God guided their writings. There are diverse variations with the main poplular being the King James version. this is an entire historic previous and subject count in itself. you will might desire to locate that to ascertain in case you felt you will possibly have self assurance in it your self. the two way, it is a bounce of religion. You the two belive or you do not have self assurance that there grew to become into divine intervention interior the writings of the bible. Neither area might nicely be shown completely. i won't have the ability to instruct to you that there grew to become into divine intervention and you're able to't coach that there wasn't. you will possibly desire to ask your self. What do you rather have self assurance? it is not an common question. there are such multiple diverse takes on Christianity in itself. the interpretation of multiple the writings is between the excuses for this. Hell, and the existence of, to illustrate. human beings will element to as against the place the interpretation of one observe on my own will handbook their theory. stable success with all of it.

    Prophecy way before it happened:

The Christmas tree tradition started in 15th century, but Jeremiah wrote of it.

Jeremiah 10:3-4 For the customs of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.

He specifically is speaking to US.

Absolutely! The Bible is totally backed in accuracy and evidence, and this is proven by: 1) Its candor and honesty of those who wrote it, 2) Its proven authenticity, 3) Its internal harmony (one scripture can back up another), 4) Its practicality, even for today's world, 5) Its geographic and chronological accuracy, 6) Its scientific accuracy, 7) Its historical accuracy, 8) Its prophetic fulfillment.

    Yes, yes and yes.

You should try doing some real research on the subject.

First you need to start but understanding what the Bible is and how it came to be from real sources not TIME magazine or Discovery Channel. Then go from there.

If you consider brainwashing evidence then it all is! Where would evidence of magical creations come from? Only in ones imagination! No gods or devils exist anywhere outside of any ones properly inculcated mind! The only truth since the bile says you need a (pretend fake) belief of faith on your part to believe any gods or devils are even believable! The brainwashing gives you that "pretend fake belief of faith" not any truths!
