What to do with a cat with an allergy?
My cat is 2 years old and now has allergies. I just paid a kings ransom as the allergies caused an eye infection and my cat scratched her cornea.
I love my cat and I am just wondering what other people do with their beloved cats for allergies.
My vet talked about prednisone and the risks are greater than the benefit.
Any suggestions?
Studies are out on allegra and benadryl.
Vet is against predinsone and is saying just treat the symptoms. I understand and agree. But cat is constantly sneezing.
Yes, it is environmental and I will call the vet tomorrow and see what his answer is. Thank you so much as I am just so concerned about my cat.

Hmm...any idea what he's allergic to? I'm assuming enviornmental rather than food allergies based on symptoms.
Vets regularly prescribe Chlorpheneramine or Atarax (Hydroxazine) for allergies. My cat is on Atarax, and it works well without knocking her out or making her nuts. A cat dose is about 2.5 mg, and your vet can prescribe it, or call it into a human pharmacy, where it may be cheaper.
A lot of people with pets that have allergies sometimes do an occasional round of prednisone/prednisolone when symptoms are out of control bad, then cycle back to just the antihistimine. Severe allergies can also be treated with cyclosporine (Atopica) from your vet, but this is VERY expensive, so I would only do it if nothing else works!
