Help with fractions :)?

this is the question :

1 1/8 - 1/4 =

i need help with this question i don't get how to subtract it pleaase helpp .

    If you've got one and an eighth - that's nine eighths altogether

    a quarter is two eighths [ 2/8]

    so, you subtract 2 from 9 - the answer is seven eighths , 7/8

    Have you got a ruler with eighths of an inch marked on it? Look at it - that'll make it clearer to you.

    If yoiu can turn both sides of a sum into the same thing - in this case, eighths - it makes it easier.
