How much play is too much in the upper idler?
Washing the bike, I noticed that the idler has quite a bit of lateral play and is wobbly too. It is a 105 with 3400 miles. I cleaned and put grease on it twice on this miles. Is that normal wear for a 105?
Any recommendations for some really good ones? Can I use idlers from Ultegra or DuraAce?
I think that this is the reason my shifting wasn't that crispy in the last 10 days or so.
The teeth themselves don't seem to have any wear.
@ John- Thanks! I will check the chain. The play appears to be a bit over 1 mm though.
My bad. Seems like last time I cleaned and greased, I had installed the CENTERTRON idler in the bottom and the tensioner in the top. I did check the chain as John suggested, will have to replace sometime soon.

Jockey wheels will have play in them, about 1 mm is normal. I would get a chain wear indicator and check the derailleur adjustment.

Edit:
The 1 mm play was just a guess could be as much as 1.5 mm on my Ultrega with a few hundred miles on it.
Also check
1. The cage to derailleur play
2. Derailleur to frame play
3. If shifting is sluggish clean the shifter cable and the cable guide under the bottom bracket. Put a layer of grease over the cable guide to lube it and keep dirt out.
