You really do not need a 2nd router, or a repeater for that matter. If i were you, i would get a more powerful router. I think the best wireless routers contain Wireless-N band routers, but i could be wrong. That should be more than enough to cover your whole house. Trust me, adding another router would definitely result in conflicting IP address and whatnot, and network adapter conflicts. I would just go and buy a more powerful router to save yourself some headaches down the road. But as always, do whatever you wish!

    Hope this helps!

Do NOT connect the second router to the network yet

(You will have to set up the second router by connecting directly to it as it could have the same IP address as the first router..To make any changes to either router then the second must be disconnected from the network for the same reason)

turn off DHCP on second router

turn off NAT translation on second router

Set second router to access point if possible

set second router wireless channel to a different one to router 1 (otherwise they will interfere) and give it a different SSID (so you can recognise it and log into this one)

In effect you have turned the second router into a hub/switch with wireless access point by disabling all the additional functions a router has)

connect 2 routers together via ethernet cable (or via powerline adaptors)

(you may well be able to pick up a wireless router cheaply on e-bay- any wireless router will do)

I would either buy a wireless N router or get a pair of powerline adapters, these use the household wiring instead of a long Ethernet cable. You plug 1 adapter into the Ethernet port of the router and local mains socket the other adapter into the distant PC/Laptop/game console and a mains socket. If you replace the distant powerline Ethernet adapter with a powerline wifi adapter you can create a local hotspot a good distance from the router.

I am not a keen fan of repeaters, they halve the throughput and tend to be unreliable and prone to drop connections.

Assuming that your main router is also a modem, you can in theory plug a second router into your main wireless creating two wireless networks. Just connect a power cable into your second router and use an Ethernet cable from your main wireless router to your second router.

You want to buy a repeater not a router. To set up a repeater your going to plug it into a computer, open a browser and type the repeaters ip address(192.168.1.1 most likely) to connect. Now you can configure it to work on your wireless network.

plug in an ethernet cable into one of the external ports on router no1 (theres 4 of them)....plug the other end into the internet port on router no2 then configure your wireless network on which router you want to connect to

You get a instantaneous community card to place into the very own laptop to place it on the instantaneous community. This leaves only one instantaneous router servicing the two machines. Routers with the aid of their nature safeguard omre then one device. And in case you % to amplify your roaming around the abode with the instantaneous computer they have instantaneous get entry to factors as they are mentioned as. only get a instantaneous card for the computer.
