Computer Help. can't find hard drive?

This is for Dell Dimension 8400. Installed a new 80gb SATA Hard Drive on this computer. In the BIOS it shows the hard drive, however upon booting to the system, booting to Hard Drive first, it loads the loads (OS) but then it says it cannot find the hard drive. I have checked the SATA, which is number 1 of 4.

I then used an IDE 250gb Hard drive it it states the same thing. Have been doing computers for a very long time, and this is the first time I have run across this problem. What do you think may be wrong?

PS: Am Loaded Windows 7 , with 4 gbs of ram.

Thanks

Look for the drive settings in your BIOS, dell disables ports that are not in use for a smooth boot up. Try re-enabling them or turning them on.

Check the drive controller setting in the BIOS to see if it's set to RAID, AHCI, or ATA. Try a different setting to see what happens. If it's set to RAID or AHCI, set it to ATA, and try again. See below for documentation on your BIOS.
