    Praise be to Allaah,

Begging people for money must be out of necessity. It is not permissible for anyone to ask people for money when he is not in need or he is able to earn a living. There are certain categories for whom it is permissible to ask of people. They are: the poor person who is destitute, the man who owes a debt, and the one who has been stricken by financial calamity and lost all his wealth. In these cases it is not permissible to ask for more than one needs, on condition that he does not have enough to meet his needs and is not able to earn enough for his livelihood.

It was narrated that Qabeesah ibn Mukhaariq al-Hilaali said: I incurred a debt (in order to reconcile between two parties) and I came to the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) to ask him (for help) with it. He said: “Stay with us until the zakaah comes, and we will order that something be given to you.” Then he said: “O Qabeesah, asking for help is not permissible except in one of three cases: a man who has incurred a debt (in order to reconcile between two parties), for whom it is permissible to ask for help until he has paid it off, then he should refrain; a man who has been stricken by a calamity that has destroyed all his wealth, for whom it is permissible to ask for help until he gets enough to get by – or he gets enough to meet his basic needs; and a man who is stricken by poverty and three men of wisdom among his people acknowledge that So and so has been stricken by poverty, then it becomes permissible for him to ask for help until he gets enough to get by – or to meet his basic needs. Apart from these cases asking for help, O Qabeesah, is haraam and the one who begs is consuming something haraam.” Narrated by Ahmad, Muslim, an-Nasaa’i and Abu Dawood.

And (it is haraam) because of the hadeeth, “Whoever asks of people to accumulate wealth is asking for a live coal” and the hadeeth “Charity is not permissible for a rich person, or for one who is strong and healthy.”

Narrated by the five apart from an-Nasaa’i

I don't know if it's formally Haram, but it is Makrooh at the least. Rasulullah (noticed) relatively disliked the act of begging. It's under the honor of a Muslim to beg. The upper hand is best than the minimize hand. If a individual is in need, they must go to their nearby Masjid or group middle, and aybe search help from family and friends. I'd now not help a woman who goes from door to door, but seems apparently quality. In Saudi I've seen women sitting outside the Masjid, carrying Niqab and keeping a child.....Or might be a person lacking an arm or a leg.....Matters like that make me feel like helping, so I do support these variety of people.... If thye happen to be deceiving people, their subject is with Allah.

As long as one is capable of working and earning, begging is highly disliked and there are many Hadiths saying that God doesn't like people who burden themselves on others and there are also many Hadiths saying praising working for earning a halal income for a one and his family.

But at the same time it's not completely forbidden and Muslims are told not to turn down someone who asks them for something and to help them.

well i begged my boss to give me ONE DAY off work and he said "yes" so what's wrong with begging others? o.O:P

ok ill try to not be silly:P......First of all, begging is a very bad way of earning money in Islam. Our Prophet (pbuh) said: "A person begs and begs.. eventually, he appears on the Day of Judgment with no flesh on his face.", "A person who begs money when he does not need, collects fire."(al-Hindi, VI/495; Ibn Hajar, Bulugh`1-Maram, (Exp) N/144). The Quran praises the poor that people think they are free from want because of their modesty and that do not beg insistently from people and adds that they are the people to be helped. (al-Baqara (2) 273) There are many obvious hadiths regarding the evil of begging. (see al-Hindi, ibid.)

However, when we look at some verses of the Quran and the actions and words of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), we see that it is necessary to give something to the person who begs not to reject him: When the ways of righteousness are listed in the Quran, the beggars are mentioned along with relatives, orphans, the needy and the wayfarers. (al-Baqara (2) 177) Since zakat (alms) is also mentioned in the same verse after beggars, it should be something other than zakat. In addition, when the characteristics of righteous people who deserve the blessings in Paradise are listed in two verses, the phrase "in their wealth and possessions, the right of the (needy), him who asked and him who was prevented from asking is used. (See adh-Dhariyat, (51) 19; al-Maarij, (70) 25) It means it is necessary to give to the needy and the beggar that is not known whether he is needy or not.

However, one does not have to give anything to beggars who sat on the roads and beg from anyone that passes by. If a beggar asks for something from you personally and says for Allah or for the sake of Allah, then it is necessary to give him something even if it is very little but he should be told in a suitable way that begging by saying so is very bad. Allah knows better but it is better not to give anything to those who beg in the mosque. Thus, it is possible to stop a bida (innovation). It is better not to give anything to those who beg as a profession although they dont need unless they ask personally from you. However, it is the order of Allah not to scold the beggar. It is also an order of Allah to send a beggar away by using kind words rather than giving him some money and then offending him.(See al-Baqara
