When is the best time to get a 'deal' on a new truck?

We were thinking of buying a new 4 cylinder Tacoma -- but we don't want to spend a lot of money. Apparently the model we want (without extended cab, just seating three people in front) isn't on every lot. Do you think we'll save money on a 2012 when the 2013 models come in -- and is that sometime over the summer?

I appreciate your input.

Depends on a few things, like current inventory, promotions/rebates, when the 2013 models start hitting dealer lots, etc.

The truck you want is not a high demand model. Toyota builds mostly larger, fancier trucks. Since you want a basic Tacoma, there won't be much rebate or promo money since there are not many around for sale. Any deals won't be all that great. If you were buying a Tundra, that would be different.

There isn't much profit in basic trucks so do not expect a big discount. 2013 models are coming but I don't think the Tacoma will change much, so no reason for Toyota to offer big rebates on 2012's.

I suggest you make the best deal you can on the exact truck you want and don't worry about the rest. If you want to try and time the market, wait until Aug/Sept when deals on 2012's will be the largest. That's a big risk if the exact truck is out there as someone may do the same thing and buy it before you do.
