My new dog won't leave the cat alone?

Hi, I have adopted a new dog (Jack Russel), he's about 2 and a half year old. I have another Jack Russel cross female, they get on really well. I have an outside cat, she's about 8, and the new dog just won't let her be, can't bring her inside because the baby cat and the old cat don't get along either. I take the dog to work each day, then feed the cat and put her in the garage, I don't really like doing this, she should have a bit more freedom, any ideas would be greatly appreciated

What would happen if you leave the new dog for the cat to 'sort out'? In my experience, cats normally rule, although the only danger could be if the cat decided to take a swipe at your new dog, and catch an eye. Is there any way you can set your place up so the cat always has an escape route?

I think it would be fairer on your cat to crate your dog when you can't supervise what's going on. And when you are there, just correct him, and mean it!

If you take the dog to work with you, why does the cat need to be in the garage? Just a thought!
