BMW 318i E46 Smoking?

I have a 2002 BMW 318 E46 and when I start it up and set off there is alot of smoke from the exhaust. The car has done 103,000 miles however, I did remove the airbox today including the air flow meter, could this be the problem or could it be something more serious? Ive had the car from New and had it serviced everytime.

Depends on the color of the smoke.

If it is blue, that is oil, and you would check the PCV valve being stuck, or do a engine compression test for a cracked ring or valve guide.

If it is black, that is gas, and you could have broken a wire at the air flow meter, like the one to the air temp sensor.

If it is white, that is antifreeze, and you would have to have blown the head gasket, to be determined with a cooling system pressure test.
