Technically yes, it is a long-term (well, in this case, lifelong) disorder that can significantly affect the quality of your life.

Some people with high functioning autism do not, personally, consider it a disability. They state that it's a different way of percieving and reacting to the world. Although this is an interesting and valid view for people with less severe autism, the further along the spectrum you go, the less it applies.

Autism is a disability. Regardless of the place you might be on the spectrum it is a disability. No one is officially disabled. Humans get well-known as disabled for quite a lot of applications you might need to advantage from. You could be regarded disabled by using the Social security Administration, however no longer by using the department of Motor vehicles. You would be regarded disabled by your institution however not by the DSM IV. There is not any common reliable awareness of disability.

The definition for disability is “any restriction or lack (resulting from any impairment) of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered normal for a human being.” If you are restiricted or unable to do what is considered "normal" for most, than yeah, you're disabled. If it doesn't, than no problem.

I've had IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) all my life. It didn't restrict me, until it was aggravated by botched surgery. Just because we have something most people don't have doesn't automatically make us disabled. It's strictly when it stops or restricts us in ways most people aren't restricted that it becomes a disability.

It technically is, but at some places like schools it depends on how severe your symptoms are. Like at my school you literally have to not be able to do anything to be helped with schoolwork etc. But in any other case it should be a disability.
