Boat or Car purchase and title?
Is there ANY state that has a law which prohibits someone under the age of 18 from buying a boat or car, registering it, and having the title in his or her name?
We are talking a cash deal here - no loan contracts, etc.
FYI - I called the Texas DOT yesterday. TX DOT told me: "Texas has no age minimum or restrictions for anyone to buy, register or own title to a boat or motor vehicle."
So my question is: Is there ANY state - that says "a person must be 18 or over to buy, register, and have title to a boat or car" ?
I am looking for "proof" in the form of a link to any State's DOT or DMV.
Thank you!
Ken G - No I am not misunderstanding my words - Obviously, we are talking about a kid that is "boating or driving age" not a 3 year old. I am saying that in Texas, a kid under 18 can walk in a store with cash and buy a boat or a car, same as buying a piece of candy. He/she can then register it, get title in his/her name - with no co-signers. Don't believe me? Look it up, or call Texas DOT - they have no age restrictions for doing this - I did it, my oldest son did it, and thousands of other 16, 17 year olds have done it through the years.
What I am saying is, if you can do this in Texas, you can do it in any state - and if that is not true - prove it! But prove it with an official state DOT or DMV link - not with what you think you know. You are confusing an everyday buy sell transaction with "age of majority laws" and contracts.
(of which, in Texas anyway, the TX DOT officials say has nothing to do with someone buying a car or boat, registering and g

I believe you are misunderstanding the words you are using.
While a three week old child can own property they can not purchase property. A 17 year old likewise is not legally able to sign a contract so they can not buy a car however a parent could and then title the car in the name of the minor.

I've. They can be if the fee is right. On newer, extra steeply-priced cars, the cost must be 25-40% below what the equal used auto with none paint or body work is valued at. Its less, like 10-15% on low-priced cars under $2500. But, much is dependent upon the exceptional of the repairs. Ive obvious some relatively poorly repaired wrecks that i wouldn't supply 50% of e-book value for. Be told, you can also or may not be in a position to borrow money on a earlier salvage vehicle and your coverage will likely be greater.
