Would this drive you crazy as a manager (not Girardi related)?
Your team is tied late top of 8th. No outs two men on. The relief pitcher is on the ropes and has thrown 7 consecutive pitches for balls. Your slugger swings at the first two pitches. I mean seriously? How about some plate discipline!

"plate discipline" doesn't drive in many runs
if you got a guy on the ropes you are going to knock him out by just standing there and letting him find his legs again.
it would seem prudent in the situation you describe to take at least one pitch. you may also think that if he has thrown 7 straight balls he doesn't want to throw an 8th. the pitcher might just aim one right down the middle.
your setup doesn't say if they were strikes or not. swing and miss or "plate discipline". if they were strikes you are still 0-2.
