Why isn't the Fair Tax debated in the MSM or Congress?

Just go straight to a sales tax; or consumption tax. Sure, our economy may shrink a bit, but at least it would be real; instead of just moving numbers around. Plus, it would encourage SAVING money! Something we need to do from top to bottom. This consumption model is not sustainable (according to Warren Buffett). Think of it, no Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax. Talk about jobs! Everyone in the world would want to have their business located in the US! We would draw the world's rich to us on a larger scale than ever before. The poor would pay less taxes because they would buy less. The rich would pay more because they buy more. No one would get out of paying taxes (black marketeers like drug dealers, prostitutes and illegal aliens, etc...). And, of course, there would no longer be a need for a bloated IRS; we would save HUNDREDS of BILLIONS on getting rid of them alone! I do think there should be some caveats though. I don't think there should be a sales tax placed on whole foods, rentals/leases or utilities. That way, healthy diets would be encouraged, saving money on health care, and the poor wouldn't have to pay tax on the home they rent or their water and electric usage. Along with no Income Tax, they could save like crazy! I'm sure there are some flaws in the idea... but doesn't it at least rate a good discussion?

Because it's the MSM and Congress, and real change is scary to them

I've never met someone who knew what the Fair Tax was and didn't like it. It's a great idea, but yeah people need to know it exists.
