I have a 3 week old kitten that wants to nurse and will latch on to anything.?

She is a foster kitten that was dropped off at the shelter without a mother. The kitten is desperate. She roots and suckles on everything. She is eating well with kitten food and gaining good weight. She is active and plays with the other kittens.

But she won't stop suckling and rooting. She will bite a nipple if I try to bottle feed her. I have given her lots of toys and even rawhide strlps to chew on. She just wants to suckle.

I do not have a surrogate mom at the moment, but I do have a queen about to deliver.

What can I do to help this desperate kitten?

Help from others who have had fosters

Update:

Yes, I have tried KMR in a bottle and the kitten bites off the nipple. I know she will outgrow some of it, but I want to help her so she will have a better chance for adoption as she gets older.

If you aren't giving her kitten milk replacer than definately do so. If she is bitting nipples I doubt the pregnant queen will put up with her for long. Other than that, some cats have weird habbits and quirks, just like people do. I got a twelve week old weened kitten once that did the same thing. He would suck on my shirt, my knuckle, my blanket... He actually drove me crazy for a while because he would wake me up several times a night by nursing on my earlobe and purring while kneading my head with his paws. He eventually grew out of the sucking part, but even years later he would always knead his paws whenever he was happy. Anyway, as long as she is getting good nutrition, she will probably grow out of it eventually.
