Many people give areas of London and the Home Counties south of the River Thames little or no consideration, because the London Underground System covers very little of the area.

However, Charing Cross mainline station is very conveniently placed to Trafalgar Square, where the sections of the Remembrance Parade form up.

There are many frequent South-Eastern train services from Kent and Surrey into Charing Cross and they usually offer a better travelling experience than the Underground.

Look for hotels or even B&Bs in areas such as Blackheath, Eltham, Sidcup, Bexley, Dartford, Gravesend, Orpington, Bromley, Purley, Sanderstead or Beckenham, just as examples. There are plenty to choose from. All of these places are within an hour of Charing Cross.

I hope you find something suitable and your Dad is able to take part, good luck, Bung 2.

There's not a lot cheap here in London but if you are planning to stop over for just one night - there are a lot of B&Bs not far from the centre of town (Whitehall).

    Check this link.

I'm wondering if your dad ever got a badge/medal for his service to Britain during the war?

Hi the best suggestion would be a hotel on the outskirts of london and a taxi in on the morning of the event.

You would be better looking just outside London I will be there myself also this may be of interest to you I don't know if your Dad will qualify for this or not but if he does it will save him money.

I have one myself and am staying at a B&B in Ricmondsworth
