Is it ok to be a Wallflower?

I'm 16 years old, and I'm kind of a wallflower.

I have always been shy, and I don't like huge social situations. I am really quite at school and I tend to fade into the background. I don't like parties and I am always extremely awkward around new people.

I suck at making small talk or maintaining a conversation with someone I don't know, and I am always freaking out that I am going to make an idiot of myself.

My mum always tells me how I am socially awkward and need to be more interactive. I know this is a pretty stupid question, but I can't help it if I'm shy/a wall flower.

Well you are really asking 2 questions.

1: is it ok to be a wall flower

2: can I help being a wall flower

The answer to Q1 is 'maybe, how does it affect your life? If it is holding back the development of your relationships it may be having a detrimental effect on your mental health and should be worked on, however if it is not an overly big issue then it doesn't matter'

The answer to Q2 is 'sure you can help it. We're not all born entertainers however there are many ways to improve. Check out books on NLP, interpersonal relations, body language, humor etc.'

I was like you but grew into liking social situations. Some people are just more reserved than others. Its fine and you'll turn out ok.You'll find that these situations will get easier as you gain more life experience and get older.I bet if we talked to you in a few years things will have changed drastically.
