Does congress support Romneys move to kill Amtrak?

What will seniors do for travel (who have too many TSA problems to fly) if Romney kills Amtrak ?

On the whole, no. Congress does not support such a plan, there are too many people that depend on Amtrak for it to go away, especially in the New England states.

In that case, many people would just stay home, and not just seniors.

However, it is very unlikely that Romney or anyone else will get rid of Amtrak. It is just too popular with the public to get rid of. With rising gas prices and more and more people shunning long distance car trips, passenger trains are the only logical solution for America's transit needs.

There has always been a major trump card that Amtrak plays when the topic of the axe comes up: Amtrak takes far less in subsidies than public roads and the airlines, and one one occasion, the head of Amtrak challenged John McCain that if McCain wanted to cut Amtrak, that he would also need to cut aviation subsidies to be fair. Needless to say, McCain was at a loss for words.

It's not just seniors that would suffer, with less options to travel safely and affordably everyone would suffer.

It would be devastating on RR retirement, at present we have a very safe solvent system, but if Amtrack was disbanded that would change drastically.

Subsidizing riders through Amtrack is far cheaper than subsidizing ridership on airlines.

i assume you're able to vote for his opponent in case you do unlike what he stands for. Your premise is dumb to start with = you could pass from l. a. to NYC on a airplane in 7 hours alongside with protection time or you could commute by making use of practice in 6 days = the difficulty of the airplane far outweighs the subject concerns you ought to come upon on the practice with the constrained mobility for that quantity of time. I agree that it become complicated some years in case you had synthetic limbs or different issues that required you to get pat downs. yet that has all replaced = physique scans are the suitable component for elderly travellers - extra suitable than the era of classic xrays. You walk suitable by or pass by in a wheel chair. It takes seconds and you're on your way. until you have an ailment that motives blood clots, possibly consistently extra suitable to take the airplane fairly of a practice. I fly lots for organization, each so often as much as fifty two weeks in a 365 days. My dad is in his late 70s with 2 hip replacements. no longer can we could consistently plan an extra hour or which you're able to get by protection.
