Why is Romney trying to kill Amtrak instead of aviation subsidies which are $12B more than Amtrak?
If the GOP line is that business should be Self sustaining , they can NOT make exceptions for their buddies biz ( airlines ) .
Besides , if the airlines move soooooo many people ,
Aviation Should be self sustaining and Not getting 7X the taxpayer $$$$$$$$$$ that Amtrak gets .

How is Romney trying to kill Amtrak? Does he hold Federal office somewhere which I don't know about? Has Amtrak not been killing itself for the past several years? What has Obama done to help Amtrak over the past 3.5 years? Feel free to email me this info.

We are not Europe, Time and time again the rail systems have been shown to lose money. Yes they played a huge part in building this country but they no longer play the role that we continually try to push them into.

Aviation hates rail because they know if it gets better it will kill the aviation industry. That's why the first poster thinks that Amtrak needs subsidies to survive but doesn't realize that so does aviation. I

Like Bigbird Amtrak should run on its own. If we used liberal coo coo coo laid logic we would still have subsidies for canal boats on the Erie Canal and paying Wells Fargo to maintain a stage coach run from Tucson to Tombstone.

Trains are great at moving cargo....they stink at moving people.
I was going to take my kids on a train ride, and make it line up with a vacation for the family rather than drive or fly to our destination.
But the train tickets were far FAR more expensive than driving or flying...so we skipped the train like most Americans.

Amtrak is killing itself. Time for a new rail system or a railroad that doesn't need to be subsidized.

Amtrak has already died a thousand deaths so maybe one more will put it into the hands of private enterprise where it can survive.

which aviation 'subsidies'?? taxes on your plane tickets pay for the air traffic controllers, airports, and TSA.
