In order to bring a new drug to market, it cost the company developing it about a million dollars, in exchange for their money investment, the company is allowed to hold an exclusive patent on it for 7 years and keep the name of the drug. After that other companies may make the drug but they have to give it a different name even though it is the same drugs. These drugs with different names that are the same as the brand names are called generic drugs and yes they are safe and the same essentially as the brand name in everything but the name.
They are also cheaper.

Very safe. A generic medication is a cheaper version of the name brand medications you see in the store. for example: acetaminophen is the generic form of tylenol. both contain the same active ingredient and do the same thing for your ailment. the generics are usually cheaper and have the same result, which is why most people like them.
