Preventing CRF in cats?

I just lost my second cat to chronic renal failure and now we just have one left (12 yo, male, Himalayan).

What actions can I take to prevent CRF in my last cat?

and

Are there any other common health problems in Himalayans?

There are two yahoo groups I think would answer just about anything you need to know concerning this issue.

This first one is a very large group which is mostly breeders and also vets. They have lots of great info just in their files section alone, but I am sure if you posted your question concerning common health problems in Himalayans, you would get an answer very quickly and probably a slew of answers:)

    http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/fanciershealth/

This other group is highly recommended to folks with CRF kitties and was created by a woman who basically "wrote the book" on care of CRF cats

I think you will be very satisfied and glean tons of info from both groups, even if you just lurk and watch the posts!

Best Wishes and also my Prayers your other kitty remains happy, healthy and lives a long life!

Source(s): Cat owner 50+ yrs, also run a feline rescue/sanctuary called A Place Of Love, Inc Web site is http://aplaceoflove.org/ note: web site woefully needs updating, but you can email with problems and even your prayer requests for your kitty or yourself via the web site. I do have some helpful hints/tips on my site for common problems in kitties and how to help them. Hopefully site will have a major makeover/update asap (my brother maintains the site).
