what does it mean when someone?
puts their thumb on the nose and their pinkie in the air. i keep seeing this but have absolute no idea what it means.

It depends in which location the sign has been used. In Hawaii it means "shaka", a way to say "what's up". But it could also mean "y" in sign language, devil horns (displaying antichrist), or an elephant. Or it might be a silly thing to do.
