What do you think of the prospects of Andrew Luck vs Peyton Manning in the playoffs?

I'm thinking the AFC seeds will likely fall this way:

1. Texans - AFC South title

2. Ravens - AFC North title

3. Patriots - AFC East title - 3rd via tie-breaker win over Broncos

4. Broncos - AFC West title

5 Steelers - 1st Wildcard - easiest schedule left of teams competing for wildcard

6. Colts - 2nd Wildcard - Hold 2 game lead over next closest wildcard contenders, not counting Steelers who they hold a half game lead on

That means for the first round, the 6th seed Colts might likely play the 4th seed Broncos and we'd have a Peyton Manning vs. Andrew Luck matchup for the first round of the playoffs with the winner likely taking on the Texans.

Update:

That is true, it would have to be the 4 and 5 seed or the 3 and 6 seed. That could possibly happen if the Broncos pull off the 3rd spot over the Patriots and the Colts pull off the 6th spot. Or it could possibly happen if the Broncos stick in the 4th spot and the Colts pull off the 5th spot over the Steelers. I had forgot that the 3rd and 4th spots determined the wildcard placing instead of the 1st and 2nd spots.

Update 2:

I can't see the Patriots pulling off the top spot. They struggled pretty hard with the Bills last week. I can't see them winning out. I think it would be quite difficult for them to pull off wins against the Texans, 49ers and Colts without losing to at least 1 of them. Their passing defense isn't very strong. The most likely to win out is probably the Broncos. So there might be a good shot at a 3 Broncos vs a 6 Colts.

The Colts would play the Patriots in your playoff scenario.

I have it looking more like this:

    1 Patriots 13-3

    2 Texans 13-3

    3 Ravens 13-3

    4 Broncos 11-5

    5 Steelers 11-5

    6 Colts 10-6

In which case the only way the Broncos and Colts could play would be in the AFC Championship, which is also true of your scenario. The Colts would need 5th seed to play 4th seed in first round.

I'm NOT trying to derail your question here but felt compelled to respond. I personally can't stand the phrase "Andrew Luck vs Peyton Manning" or any other QB vs. QB. Quarterbacks don't play against each other, they play against defenses. To truly compare one QB vs. another, you'd have to compare their stats vs. the same defense in the same year with the same offensive weapons. The only way this could happen is for them both to be on the same team against a team they play twice during the regular season; i.e. the starting QB gets injured after the first game against a team and the backup QB starts later in the season against the same team. I think it is entirely inaccurate to compare Luck vs. Manning. They don't even have the same O-line. Only 2 offensive lineman are still on the Colts roster as when Manning was taking the snaps. Both QBs have had Reggie Wayne to throw to but Manning also had Garcon, where Luck has Avery. So without going into much more detail, how can you honestly compare the two in anything other than a general sense? Also, on any given Sunday, any NFL team can have a good or bad day or be stacked against a outstanding or terrible defense. Both passing defenses are pretty close but Denver has the 6th best defense in the NFL where Indy is ranked 18th.

I concede that the game may wind up being a good one to watch regardless. I just think it's absolutely ridiculous to compare QBs as if they were racing their offenses side by side down the field.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. LOL. I have no idea why.

It would be interesting to see Peyton Manning & Andrew Luck match up in the Playoffs, the Colts past vs, their future

I anticipate that happening as well and I give the Colts a great shot at the upset.
