Why don't people demand term limits on Congress?

For the same reason they join in the media destruction of Tea Party candidates.

The whole point of the Tea Party was to USE the Republican label to put in ORDINARY people into office, instead of career politicians, connected children of the wealthy, and lawyers. But the elite nobilty in DC sees that as a threat to their "old boy" network, so BOTH parties get the assistance of the media to assassinate the character of those candidates and dig up dirt. The problem is, they are ordinary people, imperfect and flawed, so it's EASY to denigrate them.

And what does the public do? Do they ignore the media and come to the support of their "own" ordinary people? No, they cheer it on, laugh and ridicule, and take pleasure in the destruction....

leaving the void to be filled with another career politician, child of wealth, or another lawyer.

And we're surprised when nothing changes.

It's so bad that, even when one of those "ordinary" people get elected, the FIRST thing that happens is they are called in to the office of Pelosi, Reed, Boener, McCain, etc., and they are told how things "work" in DC, and how they have to forget about their ideas and do as they are told.

We get the government we deserve. We clearly like the way it's being done, or else we'd support those trying to actually make a difference.

It should also be interesting to note that there is no Tea Party equivalent trying to use the Democrat party as their ticket in. So right off the top, you have 50% of the nation apparently happy with things the way they are.

We already have term limits. It's called elections. Every Representative in the House runs every two years. If that representative is doing an unsatisfactory job, he/she can be voted out. The term of a Senator is six years but they still have to face the voters.

It is true that incumbents have an advantage, but they do get beaten sometimes.

This past election, Scott Brown was defeated in Massachusetts by Elizabeth Warren. In Illinois, the incumbent, Joe Walsh, was defeated for reelection to the House by Tammy Duckworth.

In 1998 in Illinois, Carol Moseley Braun was defeated when she ran for reelection to the U.S. Senate. This is after she beat the incumbent, Alan Dixon, six years earlier.
