Is Scouting officially valuing who people are rather than their beliefs?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2242584/Sc...
I myself was a scout leader, and was accepted for the post despite admitting I don't believe in God. I saw my duty in this respect as supporting the children in what they believed. I didn't discuss with them the fact that I didn't believe. The other adults involved in scouting and local clergy were aware of it.
Hi (((Olga))). In my 40s, when my son joined the under-8 part of the movement (the Beavers) I offered to help out with the Cub Scouts, having had army experience (part-time) in my 20s which I thought might be useful. I was eventually invited to become a Leader and entered "None" for Faith or Denomination on the form. The board of 5 included a vicar and they questioned this, so I explained my religious upbringing and how I stopped believing as a teenager, and believe in mutual respect and compassion. The vicar liked the last part and I was appointed as a Cub Scout Leader and then Group Scout Leader. After 6 or so years, I left to do a course for promotion in my job about 10 years ago; my son's now 23 by the way.

I was a Brown Owl and had a Brownie Pack. Yes, hypocritically I said the oath - even tho' I am an atheist because I figured I had something to give the kids, having been thru' the whole scouting thing myself when young- ending up a Sea Ranger, and they were having trouble getting people to take groups. No police check in those days.
I don't think I damaged them in any way. Did not mention my atheism and just tried to turn out honest, loyal and good young girls.

Not believing in God does not mean you do not believe in something about life the universe and everything. I would prefer people who nail their banner to the mast than those that hide behind atheism. If they believe life has no meaning or purpose then what the hell are they doing in the scouts. Of course they may believe something else...something even more outrageous.
