Does everyone deserve the same pay, no matter how hard they work?

For example, should someone who does the bear minimum at their job be paid the same as someone who covers other people's shifts, and goes the extra mile?

Nope. They should be paid based on their performance.

first things first - it's not the bear minimum.it's bare minimum.I suppose the same question could be asked of students.Do those who can't spell or use the proper word in a sentence deserve the same diploma as those who pass with honors? But enough about that .On to the question....

If those conditions are agreed upon by the workers covered under that agreement and the company managers, yes. When a person accepts the job where the wages and benefits are established by a majority of the employees' contract,a new hire has the choice to accept them as a condition of employment or not.

Being in a union does not mean that you don't have to perform in your job and do as little as possible.Everyone is accountable in one form or another. For you to generalize all working conditions and wage scales of the many different unions in this country only shows ignorance of them.Research the subject before having an uninformed opinion of which you know little about.

No If someone contributes more, they should be paid more.

The CEO, for instance, makes all the decisions that keep the place running. He or She went to college and got a good education in order to do that job, and deserves to be compensated well.

Absolutely not. But I have figured out something. It's not what you do or don't do, it's how well you kiss azz (and your 'sincerity' at it). Your first priority at work? You'd think it would be to do a good job, wouldn't you? But it isn't. It's to please the boss. Never forget that.

There is no such thing as a merit raise at Walmart. I wonder if all employers will start phasing them out.

  • no...

but at the same time... there is reasonable limits to how much a ceo is actually worth to a company...

I don't mind the owner or ceo of a company making even 70 times more than the average worker...

but that's ballooning to 300 times more these days... the problem is... companies are making more money and aren't sharing any... so there is no overall economic growth

working class isn't getting a raise, they aren't spending more... no growth...

No, because that could mean slackers can get as much money as people covering hours for others.

The person who works more should get more money for his labor.

That is kind of how the military works. Of course, the people who work hard get promoted and then they get paid more.

It doesn't matter how good a job they do or what skills they have . They should be paid enough to buy a nice house , support a family and take long vacations.

I believe there are still merit raises. Also, pretty much every one knows who works and who slacks and when it comes down to the chopping block they cut the slackers
